PhysibleMDM: Enforcing Inference-Time Physical Feasibility Constraints on Motion Diffusion Models via Noise Optimization

This paper introduces PhysibleMDM, a framework that improves the physical feasibility of motion diffusion model outputs by optimizing the diffusion noise at inference time, without retraining the generative model. It defines surrogate feasibility constraints that can be evaluated without full trajectory simulation, combining kinematic checks with dynamic feasibility tests computed through an inverse-dynamics inner loop posed as a cone program. The resulting black-box noise optimization is solved with Sep-CMA-ES, and an autoregressive scheme chains optimized segments into long motion sequences. On an SMPL humanoid across 100 motion styles, mean ground penetration, self-collision penetration, and ground slip drop by 75%, 92%, and 74% respectively; on a custom bipedal robot, median reduction…

Alpha: Systematic Fault Injection and Robustness Evaluation for LLM-Driven Embodied Manipulation

This paper introduces Alpha, a fault-injection and robustness-evaluation framework for LLM-driven robotic manipulation in simulation. By injecting calibrated faults across perception, actuation, kinematics, and planning, and comparing an LLM planner against a deterministic scripted oracle, it finds that physical and kinematic faults affect both planners identically. The performance gap is entirely due to planner-output corruption, isolating the prompt-to-JSON serialization and validation interface rather than a reasoning deficit.

MemPlan: Memory-Conditioned PDDL Planning for Partially Observable Text Environments

The paper proposes MemPlan, a framework that recasts LLMs from costly long-horizon planners into constrained bridges between natural language and symbolic planning. It keeps the PDDL domain fixed and rebuilds the PDDL problem at each step from parsed observations, candidate hypotheses, and interaction memory, using positive graph memory to steer the planner toward plausible checks and negative memory to rule out refuted assumptions. Experiments on TextWorld, ALFWorld, and Robotouille show higher task completion and better step efficiency than language-only and PDDL-aware baselines, with far lower online token cost than LLM planning approaches such as ReAct.

Consistency Is Not Validity: Self-Rewarded Moral Argumentation Makes Language Models Decisive but Pliable

arXiv:2610.30349v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: LLMs are increasingly consulted for moral judgment. We aim to improve performance on such tasks by rewarding good arguments, on the premise that arguing well increases the likelihood of judging well. We train a reinforcement learning policy initialized from a state-of-the-art language model in a self-judged tournament with masked thinking: the generated arguments are judged pairwise on argument quality by the policy itself. As an empirical basis, we extract authentic dilemmas from classic novels, using a logic solver to verify that each constitutes a conflict. We show that our judge rates argument quality like human annotators, and the policy then adopts the language register that it rewards. Testing on the external benchmarks MoralChoice, E…

At a matched 1B-token budget, CPT on AQL-curated data lifts a four-benchmark Arabic mean by 3.51 points over CPT on raw web text, which provides no gain over the base model. In a controlled 5B-token comparison, AQL-Lite recovers 94% of the gain of full-parameter CPT (mean 73.19 vs. 73.58) in 52% of the wall-clock time and beats adapter-only baselines on every benchmark. Edit, Don't Imitate: Minimal-Edit On-Policy Distillation for Multimodal Reasoning

arXiv:2610.30231v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Visual mathematical reasoning can fail before reasoning begins: when a vision-language model (VLM) misreads a diagram, subsequent reasoning proceeds from false premises. This perceptual bottleneck is especially pronounced in smaller models, while accurate textual descriptions can substantially narrow the gap to larger models. Because obtaining such descriptions at inference requires additional annotation or model calls, we propose minimal-edit corrective on-policy distillation. Using reference figure descriptions and verified reference solutions as training-only information, a teacher scores incorrect student rollouts under a minimal-edit objective, and only teacher-disfavored tokens contribute to the corrective loss. How Prompt Style Affects AI Accuracy and Speed in Competitive Programming

arXiv:2610.30223v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Large language models are increasingly used in competitive programming, and their outputs are sensitive to how a prompt is phrased. Prior work has compared prompt strategies for accuracy on competitive programming, but not for runtime speed, and has not situated the results against human performance. In an exploratory study of one prompt in each of nine styles on GPT-5.5 across three accuracy tasks from the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) and two NP-hard speed tasks, we found that no single prompt was best: the strongest prompt depended on the task type and on whether results were summarized by the mean or the median, suggesting that, at least for these tasks, prompt style should be matched to the objective rather than treated as…

MoEZip: Routing-Aware KV Cache Compression for Sparse Mixture-of-Experts LLMs

This NeurIPS 2026 paper proposes MoEZip, a KV cache compression method built specifically for sparse Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) language models. Existing compression techniques work well for dense transformers but overlook a problem unique to MoE: evicting KV entries can change which experts are selected when generating an answer, degrading output quality. MoEZip introduces a metric based on the Fisher information matrix of routing distributions to measure how sensitive expert routing is to perturbation, combines it with attention weights for routing-aware scoring, and composes complementary eviction strategies for dense and sparse-MoE architectures. Externalise the Memory: A Pre-Registered Study of Where an Embodied Agent's Experience Should Live

A pre-registered study compares storing an embodied agent's experience in policy weights versus retrieving it externally at inference. Attaching a frozen retrieval buffer to fixed student weights raised success by +34 pp (z=5.15) to the teacher reference level of 49.3%, while distilling memory-augmented behaviour into weights beat an action-only control by only +1 pp (n.s.), leading the author to withdraw rather than refute the memory-in-weights claim. On a harder second task the retrieval advantage points the same direction (+6 pp) but falls short of significance, with exploratory diagnostics linking the attenuation to memory coverage.

Forging More Tasks into Better Harnesses: Agentic Harness Evolution via Successive Scale Racing

This paper uncovers a counterintuitive failure mode: existing methods for agentic harness evolution get worse as the task pool grows, because they select evidence poorly during optimization. The authors propose Successive Scale Racing (SSR), which adaptively searches for optimal evidence combinations in each evolution round, achieving state-of-the-art results across all six configurations on three benchmarks and improving pass rate from 64.3% to 68.3% as the pool grows from 40 to 200 tasks, while cutting validation executions by 60%.

Automating ML for Science: Can Frontier Agents Climb Scientific Hills in the Wild?

Researchers introduce Agent4Sci, a long-horizon testbed spanning 20 scientific ML benchmarks across 11 domains, to evaluate how far frontier coding agents can improve published best models under in-the-wild conditions. Frontier agents like Claude Opus advance the state of the art on every benchmark, achieving 10.4% mean relative improvement without academic misconduct flags. However, these gains stem almost entirely from ML-engineering tricks rather than research-level insight. Trajectory analysis reveals three recurring limitations: novelty miscalibration, resource under-utilization, and rapid collapse into local engineering sweeps. Lightweight plug-in skills boost Claude Opus to 20.1% and Codex from 4.4% to 8.1%.

This study investigates the benefits of integrating lane-change prediction, based on knowledge graph embeddings and Bayesian inference, into autonomous vehicle decision-making. Three driving strategies are evaluated in risky merging scenarios simulated in CARLA: reactive driving, prediction-based longitudinal action, and prediction-based lateral action. The proposed prediction model anticipates the surrounding vehicle's lane change approximately 3-4 seconds before its occurrence, allowing the ego vehicle to adjust its behavior accordingly.
