The operational question is therefore trust, not accuracy: which answers can be acted on, and which escalated to a reviewer. We evaluate seven confidence estimators, three inference-only and four trained internal probes, across five open-weight LVLMs and four conditions from three financial visual question-answering benchmarks, one bilingual; every probe is trained only on natural images and applied to finance without adaptation, so the results measure out-of-distribution transfer. Three findings hold. First, the scarce property is calibration, not ranking: the inference baselines rank correct above incorrect answers competitively but are badly overconfident, calibration error far above what a threshold can tolerate, and only the trained probes produce a thresholdable score. Second, reliability is structured rather than global, along two axes a practitioner can read directly: the best estimator shifts with both model and task, none leading more than eight of twenty (model, condition) cells, and a controlled bilingual contrast exposes an apparent language robustness as a composition artifact that dissolves once models are read one at a time. Third, cast as deferral under an error budget, how much can be safely automated is set first by the model's competence and only narrowed by its confidence, so deferral clears a real share of the easiest condition and almost none of the hardest, near zero at a strict 5% budget. Two trained probes carry the calibration a deferral policy needs, and among them only the grounding-aware one lowers its confidence on answers a model gives without using the figure, separating detected non-grounding from a fluent guess.

Existing formulations build this blend with linear interpolation (LERP) in the raw embedding space, which implicitly treats that space as Euclidean. We analyze the embedding space of MDLMs and find that the mask and predicted-token embeddings maintain a near-constant angle of (\approx 73^\circ) throughout training, while embedding norms remain essentially flat across vocabulary-frequency rank. These indicate a hyperspherical geometry, for which LERP is the wrong interpolation primitive. We introduce Spherical Soft-Masking (S-SM), a drop-in replacement that aggregates the top-(k) predictions with a Fr'echet mean on the hypersphere and blends this mean with the mask direction using spherical linear interpolation (SLERP), then restores the native mask norm. We evaluate S-SM on continued pre-training of a released 169M-parameter MDLM checkpoint across a wide range of inference-time step budgets, SLERP feedback avoids the training degradation that LERP feedback induces and delivers MAUVE gains of up to 2x over the vanilla MDLM baseline and 27.5-56.1% over TopK/LERP at various sampling budgets, alongside consistently lower generative perplexity (16.9-19.6% over the baseline), while leaving output entropy and convergence essentially unchanged.

Adversarial anonymization defends against this by rewriting a text with a capable language model that also plays the attacker, but it needs a powerful model at inference time and thus sends private text to a third party, the very exposure anonymization should prevent. Recent work distills this behavior into a small on-device model using supervised fine-tuning and direct preference optimization (DPO), but DPO only imitates the teacher's offline choices and never directly optimizes the privacy--utility objective we care about. We introduce \textbf{GRASP} (\textbf{G}roup-\textbf{R}elative \textbf{A}nonymization via \textbf{S}elf-refinement \textbf{P}olicy-optimization), which reinforces the local anonymizer online with Group Relative Policy Optimization. A single small model acts as anonymizer, adversary, and utility judge, trained against a self-generated reward that hides attributes while preserving meaning, with a design that guards against reward hacking. Trained on Llama-3.1-8B, \ours{} improves the privacy--utility trade-off over the DPO-distilled baseline, consistently across three independent LLM judges. Against adversarial anonymization driven by frontier models such as Gemini~2.5~Flash and Claude, it achieves a comparable or better overall trade-off while removing substantially more private information, and it runs entirely on-device at roughly $1\%$ of the GPT-4o teacher's cost.

Traditional multilingual benchmarks rarely isolate language while holding content, question, reference answer, model, and evaluation unit constant. We define the Cross-Lingual Comprehension Gap (CLCG) as the reduction in response quality when the same content and question are presented in a target language rather than in English. Using ParallelQA-18, a professionally human-translated parallel corpus, we evaluate five models from five laboratories on a stratified sample of 150 articles across 18 languages (English reference; Portuguese high-resource baseline; 16 targets spanning Joshi et al. 2020 classes 0-4). A within-item design varies only passage language. The primary estimator contrasts English versus pooled target-language Token-F1 micro-means on higher-complexity open-ended questions, with article-cluster bootstrap intervals. The primary pooled CLCG is 0.078 (95% CI 0.072-0.084), about a 17% reduction relative to the English score; the equal-language macro summary is 0.077. Net of Portuguese, the macro gap is 0.016 (95% CI 0.013-0.020). Language-level CLCG is negatively associated with Joshi resource class (rho = -0.594, p = 0.015, n = 16). In blinded paired human evaluations, higher-resource responses are preferred in 61.6% of decisive judgments (estimated preference probability 0.655, 95% CI 0.558-0.741). Capabilities shown in English should not be assumed to transfer equally to other languages; English-centered evaluations may overestimate quality for users of low-resource languages.

The dataset uses a hierarchical schema for accident types, causal factors, sub-causal factors, and supporting evidence spans. We evaluate supervised sequence taggers and instruction-tuned LLMs in an end-to-end hierarchical extraction setting. Results show that most evaluated models achieve strong accident-type prediction and recover broad causal meaning but remain limited in precise span-level extraction. JHE generally achieves stronger exact and soft matching, while IHE sometimes achieves higher keyword F1. Error distributions vary by extraction strategy, but evidence-selection and span-boundary errors remain common. A key component of such coherence is personality evolution: agents should undergo plausible, psychology-grounded changes as they experience life events in different contexts. Although prior work shows that LLM personalities can shift under contextual perturbations, how these shifts vary across traits, events, personas, and models remains poorly understood. We study event-induced personality change after 11 major life events, using the Big Five traits as a psychometric anchor and interpreting the resulting trajectories against longitudinal evidence from human personality psychology. Across four diagnostic axes, PC-Agents exhibit measurable trait shifts at similar rates for event-trait pairs with and without documented human change directions. Even when shifts follow the expected direction, their magnitudes usually fall below human effect-size ranges. Gender and cultural-region prompts show little moderating effect, while persona-level dispersion is compressed three- to four-fold relative to human samples. To enable systematic comparison, we introduce BFI-Adapt, a reusable benchmark for scoring the directional fidelity of event-induced personality change, and use it to rank 14 models. A validation suite shows that the measured shifts exceed no-event retest noise, remain stable under independently paraphrased prompts, exhibit limited and model-dependent convergence with scenario-based behavioral choices, and persist across intervening unrelated dialogue. Together, these checks establish the measured trajectories as robust event-conditioned response patterns. Our results suggest that current PC-Agents simulate the mean of human personality dynamics, but not its shape.

In earlier work, we lesioned LLMs to produce error profiles in picture naming, a central task for assessing aphasia, and found that specific lesions produced errors resembling those of individual stroke survivors. Here we ask the inverse question: given an error profile, can the lesion parameters that produced it be recovered, and what does this inverse problem reveal about transformer computation? Lesions in LLaVA-Vicuna 13B were parameterized by layer index, modification percentage, and noise sigma across 4,840 configurations, and error profiles were characterized by a seven-category clinical taxonomy (correct, semantic, unrelated, formal, mixed, neologism, no-response). We trained a multi-task neural network to map error profiles back to perturbation parameters. The problem admitted a partial solution: across 10 independently trained inverse models, modification percentage and noise sigma were recoverable, whereas layer index was recoverable only within a neighborhood. In counterfactual validation, a fresh model instance perturbed with the recovered parameters reproduced the target behavior in 81.4% of cases. This dissociation between low layer recovery and high counterfactual fidelity is consistent with functional redundancy across transformer layers, a property not captured by standard interpretability methods. As an out-of-distribution test, we applied the trained model to picture-naming error profiles from 278 stroke survivors; recovered parameters were syndrome-discriminative, most strongly for perturbation intensity, indicating generalization beyond the training distribution. Counterfactual validation provides a general framework for LLM interpretability claims beyond inverse mapping.

Existing methods learn this mapping directly and do not model the reconciliation explicitly. We recast the task as a complex-reasoning problem, which yields one output interface across heterogeneous label spaces and a trajectory over which a verifiable reward can be optimised; to our knowledge, this is the first such treatment covering both sentiment and emotion. The obstacle is on the data side: affective reasoning traces must be synthesised, and generic synthesis is misaligned with the targets, tolerances, and phenomena of affect, and discards or leaks its failure cases. We propose NTDH, which addresses these four failures. Naturalisation sets the training answer to the gold label, so it is correct by construction. A Tolerance-aware gate checks each answer against the task's own scoring margin. Domain-aware strategies refine the reasoning using ideas from affective science. Directional Hints report only the type and direction of an error, without exposing the target. We train Qwen3-8B with SFT and then GRPO under the same tolerance used for verification (up to a more permissive construction gate on the multi-label subtask), and a component ablation quantifies the data-quality effect of each part. Using 16,302 training records, about 14x fewer than comparable instruction-tuned systems, the final policy improves over its SFT checkpoint on five of six official-test metrics and achieves the strongest EI-reg result among the compared systems, at a Pearson correlation of 0.862.

We introduce a generation-aligned diagnostic ladder that compares the emitted answer, the option logits, an affine readout of those logits, and a linear readout of the hidden state at the same answer token. Successive differences separate endpoint, decision-rule, and readout-coverage gaps. Across five systems and two emotion corpora, state decoding exceeds generation by 27.8 accuracy points on average, and both the decision-rule and readout-coverage gaps are positive in all ten conditions. A label-free logit correction improves generated accuracy in every condition, showing that part of the decision-rule gap is actionable. In rank-matched comparisons, emotion information outside the native readout generalizes to held-out speakers and survives controls for measured acoustic descriptors, but replacing the selected readout-external directions usually has little effect on emitted answers. These results distinguish information availability from behavioral use and localize performance losses across the decision rule and the state-to-answer readout.

Yet current approaches have two limitations: task experts are typically identified from aggregate routing statistics that reflect usage rather than association with successful task completion, and task-expert activations remain underexplored as signals for supervision allocation. We introduce Task-Expert-Aware Supervision (TEXAS), which combines correctness-conditioned task expert discovery with token-level supervision allocation. TEXAS compares expert activations on instances that the base model solves successfully and those it fails to solve, and retains experts more strongly activated on successful instances. During fine-tuning, it upweights answer tokens in failed instances when they activate these experts. TEXAS therefore leverages existing routing behavior without restricting adaptation to a fixed expert subset or imposing an explicit target routing distribution. Across three MoE models and six benchmarks, TEXAS achieves the best or tied-best performance in 17 of 18 settings and improves over the strongest baseline by 1.3--1.5 points on average. Ablations and further analyses validate both the discovered experts and the resulting supervision strategy.

Reported gains are confounded by simultaneous changes in dataset, layer, construction method, and pooling rule, making principled decisions impossible. We introduce PoolBench, a benchmark that isolates pooling as the experimental variable under a fixed evaluation protocol. PoolBench covers 17 concepts, 19 pooling strategies, and 3 open-weight decoder-only models (Llama-3.1-8B, Gemma-2-9B, Mistral-7B), evaluated on a single audited corpus of 37,693 real-text passages. The primary axis is linear separability (D1/AUROC); steered concept prevalence (D2/SCP) and output-level disentanglement (D3) serve as diagnostic axes. The primary finding is decisive: W4_hierarchical reaches a cross-model mean AUROC of 0.7799, while the widely adopted P1_last_token baseline reaches only 0.7640 and is statistically significantly worse (Friedman+Nemenyi, p = 2.0e-36; 77 significant pairs among 18 effective strategies). Rankings are stable across layers (rho = 0.961--0.990). A key negative result: strong detection does not imply strong steering -- D2 and D3 are substantially weaker than D1 for most concepts, indicating a fundamental representational limit rather than a pooling failure. On mid-difficulty concepts, W4_hierarchical outperforms P1_last_token by 0.042--0.113 AUROC; construction method choice (DiffMean vs. REPE) has a larger effect (delta AUROC 0.15) than pooling (delta AUROC 0.016), establishing the correct practical hierarchy. We release the corpus, pre-extracted activations, scorer models, steering vectors, and evaluation code as a reusable protocol for pooling research.

We present SemiAdapt-Instruct, a modular framework that discovers latent instruction domains, trains per-domain LoRA adapters in parallel, and performs parameter-free routing, incorporating new domains via single-adapter training without modifying existing components. SemiAdapt-Instruct outperforms full model fine-tuning across all configurations on both ROUGE-L and LLM-as-a-judge evaluation, while matching single LoRA fine-tuning and delivering extensibility that monolithic approaches cannot provide. We empirically demonstrate this extensibility by showing that updating a single adapter with new domain data outperforms all monolithic baselines. Our study also finds that independent discovery methods converge on the same specialisation-friendly domains. These findings demonstrate that decomposing heterogeneous instruction data into latent domains enables extensible NLP systems where evolving domains require only targeted single-adapter updates, eliminating the need for full model retraining.

Nature's solution is \textit{developmental constraints}, where core regulatory genes remain anchored while peripheral genes adapt freely. We observe that current self-evolution algorithms for large language models lack analogous constraints. They optimize purely for capability, implicitly assuming safety will be preserved. Our experiments reveal this assumption to be dangerously wrong: models can \textit{misevolve} into powerful yet dangerous entities. Inspired by how Hox genes anchor body structure across $500$ million years of evolution, we propose \textbf{Circuit-Anchored Evolution (CAE)}. Using mechanistic interpretability, we identify a tiny \textit{safety circuit}, comprising less than $2$\% of model features, that causally mediates safety behaviors. We anchor this circuit during evolution, constraining it within a small displacement bound while allowing the remaining features to evolve freely. This mirrors the biological principle of \textit{evolvability with constraint}: preserving what is essential while adapting what is peripheral. Experiments across $3$ model families and two evolution algorithms demonstrate that CAE achieves superior safety preservation with minimal capability loss, substantially outperforming explicit reward-based constraints in both effectiveness and efficiency. Just as developmental constraints prevent biological evolution from producing nonviable organisms, circuit anchoring prevents model evolution from producing capable but dangerous systems.

Its effectiveness rests on the assumption that anonymized manuscripts convey scientific merit without revealing their authors. While authorship can often be recovered using citation networks or stylistic markers, we show that this assumption is increasingly fragile in the presence of large language models (LLMs). Using only titles and abstracts from papers published after model training, we find that LLMs collapse anonymity more efficiently than humans, with belief concentrating onto a small subset of plausible authors drawn from pools of five domain expert candidates. This vulnerability persists even when stylistic and bibliographic cues are excluded, indicating that stable patterns in problem framing and research focus function as latent conceptual signatures of authorship. Together, these findings indicate that double blind review is vulnerable to automated semantic inference, necessitating a revaluation of how anonymity and fairness are maintained in an AI augmented research ecosystem.

We instantiate this paradigm as Skill Training. In this paper, we present a comparative study of RoBERTa-based sentiment analysis and an LLM-based multi-dimensional framing analysis platform applied to a corpus of 50 political news articles from 17 international media outlets. The results reveal a critical limitation we term neutral collapse: RoBERTa classifies 70% of articles as neutral, effectively flattening substantively rich political content into an analytically uninformative category. We find that 23% of neutral-classified articles exhibit negative probability scores above 0.30. By contrast, the LLM-based approach captures political bias direction and intensity, sensationalism, emotional appeal, and political framing -- yielding multi-dimensional analytical outputs aligned with SSH epistemologies. We argue that for political media analysis, traditional SA alone is insufficient, and that LLM-based multi-dimensional frameworks offer a more epistemologically adequate computational lens for SSH research needs.

This report identifies two limitations of static multidimensional position assignment in interleaved multimodal contexts. First, height/width rotations may be applied to token pairs whose spatial displacement is not a well-defined geometric object, producing cross-modal and inter-instance spatial interference. Second, temporal coordinates are often treated as equal-step counters, so a text token, an image block, and a video segment can advance the temporal phase by comparable amounts despite different information density. We propose RIG-RoPE, a relation- and instance-gated RoPE mechanism with duration-aware temporal coordinates. RIG-RoPE augments each token with a modality indicator, a visual instance identifier, and a scalar information-duration coordinate. It enables H/W rotations only for query-key pairs from the same visual instance; otherwise the unknown spatial displacement is marginalized rather than set to zero. Temporal rotations use interpolated cumulative block durations: text tokens consume unit duration, images use a dimension-aware logarithmic spatial scale, and videos further apply a logarithmic temporal extension over effective frames. We provide a gauge-invariance argument for avoiding ordinary cross-instance spatial rotation, an impossibility result for static IDs under shared H/W subspaces, and a duration-consistency argument against equal-step multimodal time. RIG-RoPE adds no learned parameters and can be implemented inside tiled attention kernels with constant additional metadata per token. This preliminary report establishes the formulation and validation path without claiming empirical superiority.

We formulate LLM reasoning as a guided discovery process on a clue graph, and derive a one-dimensional ordinary differential equation for the fraction of discovered clues using the mean-field approximation. Experimentally, clue tokens are identified using the normalized surprisal of a student LLM on the outputs of a teacher LLM, and statistical regularities are obtained by averaging over many reasoning chains of thought. Our experiments show that the resulting statistical regularities are reproducible within the same dataset and can be fitted by the solving the proposed theoretical equation.

We compare three concrete ways to ground a frozen Qwen2.5-32B-Instruct model in an architecturally interpretable wastewater simulator (CCSS-IX): a live simulator oracle (Method 1), structured parameter injection (Method 2), and a Decoupled Recall-Reasoning (DRR) retriever (Method 3). On a 198-question causal benchmark the three reach 99.5%, 79%, and 75.8%, forming a deployment ladder above the strongest retrieval-augmented baseline at 48%. The DRR retriever has 110M parameters and trains per plant in ~17 seconds; after cross-plant transfer to a biologically distinct plant it still reaches 88%, while Method 2's static table cannot transfer. On a 60-question counterfactual benchmark only Method 3 handles queries about what happens after an intervention: +16.3 pp over Method 2, paired 95% CI [+7.1, +26.4] pp, with 100% on the timescale and operating-regime categories. On the AI2 Reasoning Challenge (ARC) with an OpenBookQA fact corpus, the same selective-retrieval mechanism reaches 79% versus unconstrained Llama-3.1-8B 76% and full-injection 74%, a +3 pp out-of-domain replication that argues against a result specific to wastewater treatment. We provide the first single-simulator comparison of live tool-use, static parameter injection, and learned numerical-parameter retrieval for industrial causal question answering.

Large language models could, in principle, bridge this gap, but they frequently hallucinate due to limited domain-specific knowledge, and standard reference-based or LLM-as-a-judge frameworks cannot reliably detect these errors. In this work, we present ACT-Eval, an evaluation framework that decomposes chess commentary into atomic claims and routes them to engine-supported tools and expert-annotated gold references to assess factual correctness, conceptual coverage, and move-quality judgment. We release a benchmark of 325 position--move pairs spanning pedagogical, tournament, and critical positions, including 125 positions with expert-verified gold atoms and a five-class error taxonomy. Evaluating leading proprietary and open-weight models, we find that factual hallucinations remain pervasive in chess commentary: GPT-5.4 without tools produces incorrect sub-claims 22.0% of the time, while smaller open-weight models exceed 40%. Although tool augmentation substantially improves factual correctness and move-quality assessment, coverage of expert strategic and tactical ideas remains limited across all models. Human calibration shows that ACT-Eval's factual judgments fall within the observed range of inter-human agreement, while its coverage scores correlate strongly with human assessments of strategic completeness.

Graph neural networks (GNNs) complement LMs by incorporating inter-patient relationships and enabling reference-patient attribution, yet they rely on high-quality patient representations. We propose Patients-like-me (PLM), a unified LM--GNN framework that integrates local patient semantics with global cohort structure. To train PLM efficiently, we introduce a Variational Expectation-Maximization algorithm that alternates LM and GNN updates under a supervised variational objective. Extensive experiments on MIMIC-III and MIMIC-IV show that PLM consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods, with improvements generalizing across encoder-only and decoder-only LM backbones. These gains are achieved with only modest additional computational overhead. PLM also provides reference-patient explanations by retrieving influential similar patients, while edge-masking experiments confirm that the highest-ranked references have the greatest impact on model predictions.

The relevance of the work stems from the absence of a comprehensive digital lexicographic resource for Tajik that is comparable in functionality to dictionaries for high-resource languages, and from the limited adaptation of modern natural language processing technologies to low-resource language systems. Based on a systematic survey of existing linguistic, statistical, and corpus resources, we propose a dictionary architecture that integrates modules for morphological analysis, lemmatization, semantic clustering, and dictionary entry generation using LLMs. The choice of subword tokenization is justified by the agglutinative nature of Tajik morphology and its high morphological variability, along with a parameter-efficient fine-tuning (PEFT) strategy suitable for limited annotated data. The novelty of the work lies in proposing the first holistic conceptual architecture of an explanatory dictionary for Tajik that unifies classical lexicographic methods, language statistics, and generative capabilities of LLMs into a single system. The practical significance of the study is the formation of a methodological foundation for developing a full-featured electronic dictionary that can serve both as a lexicographic tool and as a core resource for machine translation, automatic summarization, sentiment analysis, and other applied NLP tasks. The paper is intended for specialists in computational linguistics, lexicography, and developers of natural language processing systems working with low-resource languages.

We probe this with activation patching under a four-donor design whose two swapped-rule donors make the condition and the answer word disagree, so each layer reveals which of the two it carries. Across three open models from two families and six languages sharing one fixed item bank, a mid-stack residual band carries the predicate's truth value: patching it reroutes the answer with predicate-outcome flip near 1.0 and mapping flip near 0.0, meeting a strict pre-specified isolation criterion in 17 of 18 cells, and the same localization holds across five predicate families. The router shows the opposite profile. A learned subspace flips A and B near-perfectly within the trained pair yet transfers to a new pair at approximately 0 in every model, while in Gemma-3-4B (the only model probed cross-lingually) it transfers at approximately 0.98 to the same pair in other languages. Under every probe we ran, the router direction is token-bound and non-transferable (largely answer-readout in Gemma, pair-specific in Qwen) rather than an abstract routing module. Test is modular; under these probes, route is not.

We present a graph-to-answer mechanism-tracing case study for Graph-PRefLexOR-8B, a Qwen3-8B model adapted to expose distinct stages for brainstorming, graph construction, pattern extraction, and synthesis. We organize semantic backtracking, graph corruption, activation-based recovery measurements, and layer-by-token-region grids into a visual diagnostic workflow for inspecting this pathway. Across 100 open-ended materials-science questions, final answers remain closest to the model's own structured stages, especially synthesis. Under graph corruption, a full sweep over 37 residual-stream checkpoints, the embedding output and 36 transformer blocks, shows little mechanism recovery in the earlier transition region at layers 7--10, recovery instead concentrates in late synthesis and answer-start regions around layers 30 and 36. The workflow is intended to help scientists and model developers identify where a generated hypothesis loses or regains mechanism support before it is passed to downstream experimental planning.

We test whether the native-vs-translate gap on MGSM (German, Thai, Swahili) is a token-budget artifact for Qwen3-8B and Llama-3.1-8B-Instruct under four prompting strategies. The measured gap swings by up to 57 points across budgets, length normalization moves it by up to 38.9 points where the cap binds, and at tight caps normalization can reverse which strategy scores higher. We prospectively froze the sweep's three Qwen peaks and its near-zero value at 1024 and evaluated them on 540,000 independently hard-capped decodes: a second frozen family of six Holm-corrected tests rejects every null. The frozen test at $B^*=1024$ still fails to reject because native accuracy has already saturated there; above saturation, the residual difference is a strategy-performance gap, not an identified reasoning deficit. The same truncation channel prices a cost-ordered adaptation ladder: a cross-fitted Thai vocabulary extension closes 0.0 points of the gap at the frozen budget and 4.9 points where 19% of traces still truncate. A third frozen family varies only the announced budget at a fixed enforced cap; announcing 128 rather than 2048 tokens moves Thai native accuracy by 5.1 points, so accuracy is not a function of the enforced cap alone. A correct-emission timing identity computed from one long-cap run matches the three pre-specified MGSM peaks to 0.65 points and, in an exploratory Qwen-only analysis of three further benchmarks, tracks held-out items to 0.92 points, locating the peak exactly in five of seven cells. Treat the output cap as an independent variable and report accuracy across the budget regime, not at a single budget.

Most NLP systems discard this disagreement by collapsing it into a majority vote. We propose the Multi-Agent Perspectivist Preference Optimization (MAP-PO) framework to keep these different perspectives. On the EXIST 2024 dataset of labeled English and Spanish tweets, we first cluster annotators by their labeling behavior rather than their demographic attributes. We then fine-tune one Large Language Model agent per cluster to reproduce that cluster's annotation behavior, and coordinate the agents with preference optimization that combines individual and team-level rewards. We evaluate MAP-PO in four settings defined by two languages and two backbone language models, asking whether each agent reproduces the annotations of its own cluster and whether the agents together reproduce the majority label. Two findings hold in all four settings. First, without fine-tuning the agents behave almost identically, so cluster-specific training is necessary. Second, we show that training each agent only on the labels of its own cluster pushes the agents far beyond the clusters they should represent, while adding a shared team-level training signal consistently keeps each agent calibrated to its cluster.

Existing approaches formulate problems such as narrative planning, scene generation, and gameplay generation, each constructing computational representations tailored to specific downstream tasks rather than explicitly reconstructing and maintaining the persistent world that grounds them. We investigate reconstructing explicit persistent worlds from narrative descriptions as the central computational objective for narrative-grounded interactive realization. Rather than treating the world as an implicit by-product of downstream generation, our approach reconstructs and maintains persistent entities, locations, semantic relationships, and evolving world states while inferring only the contextual information required to support coherent interactive experiences. To investigate this perspective, we develop a reference prototype that reconstructs structured persistent world representations from narrative descriptions and subsequently instantiates playable tile-based environments. Through three representative case studies spanning a procedural scenario, an original fantasy narrative, and an adapted public-domain story, we demonstrate the feasibility of reconstructing persistent worlds and show how a shared world representation supports coherent gameplay while remaining grounded in the source narrative. By explicitly reconstructing persistent worlds prior to interactive realization, this work bridges computational narrative understanding and interactive content generation, providing a semantic foundation for AI-assisted game authoring, mixed-initiative design, educational simulations, and narrative-grounded interactive experiences.

We show this assumption fails. Our two-probe design holds a repeated-target prefix fixed and varies only the readout position: the adjacent probe places the slot immediately after the repeated block; the displaced probe places it inside a fresh sentence frame. Adjacent repetition behaves as priming intuition predicts: $P(\text{target})$ climbs with $N$ and plateaus. Displaced repetition produces an inverted-U: $P(\text{target})$ rises to an early peak and then declines as more copies are added. The displaced inverted-U shows a per-word drop with bootstrap CI excluding zero in all 13 open-access encoder and decoder models we test, and replicates across Spanish, Chinese, German, and French in 42 of 42 multilingual cells. A six-condition causal ablation isolates the effect to exact lexical repetition rather than length, generic redundancy, or semantic-neighbour exposure. A frame-pragmatics control rules out an artefact of the readout frame. Internally, per-target-token attention falls with $N$ while the total budget assigned to the repeated block grows in causal LMs but not in the masked LM we probe. Probes that vary repetition count cannot treat the readout position as orthogonal to what they measure.

This paper describes Team uOttawa's system description and results for the Named Entity Recognition (NER) shared task. The task is divided into two subtasks: coarse-grained NER with 11 classes and fine-grained NER with 28 classes, each evaluated under strict and fuzzy regimes. Through prompt engineering of commercial LLMs gemini-2.5-pro and claude-sonnet-4-5, I show that the underrepresented ancient Latin language can take advantage of cross-lingual transfer learning by using advancements made by the wider LLM development community. Overall, the methods discussed in this report demonstrate very strong results, placing first in both NER subtasks and achieving the best scores across all evaluation metrics and regimes among all submissions.
