Let's call 'em "aigents"

The author proposes using "aigents" instead of "AI agents" to avoid ambiguity and simplify terminology.

Every one’s talking about their agents. What agents are we talking about — secret agents? casting agents? foreign agents? literary agents? cleaning agents? (this slop is just full of ionic and non-ironic surfactants—). Oh, oh, AI agents.

I dislike ambiguity except when I don’t.

AI agents is clumsy, and begs to be shortened. Agents is the obvious contraction, but when you drop the AI, it becomes annoyingly ambiguous out of context. It is a canker that eats previous usages of a useful word!

So, let’s call them aigents.

Let’s call it, aigentic engineering.

I’m surprised no one has coined this portmanteau yet; or, if if they did, it never caught on. It’s totally unambiguous, and it’s a fresh namespace. Existing secret-foreign-travel agents needn’t get mixed up in this.

It’s weird, but we’ll get used to it. And when we get bored, we can shorten it to “aigs”.
