Shelly runs the OpenAI Codex CLI natively on Android — no PC, no Termux, no proot. It pairs a real native terminal with an Agent Chat pane that reads Codex output live and runs fixes with one tap. A home-screen Scouter widget shows quota, cost and rate limits, and lets you fire prompts straight from the home screen. Local LLMs (Qwen3.5 + llama.cpp) supported. Open source, GPLv3. Built entirely by directing AI agents — I don't write the code myself.

Building a native Codex CLI for Android — launching tomorrow, AMA

Hey everyone I'm the maker of Shelly.

Short version: it runs the OpenAI Codex CLI natively on Android. No PC, no Termux, no proot. I built the whole thing on a phone and I can't actually write production code myself. I describe problems to Codex in plain English, review its patches, and ship.

v6.0.0 adds an Agent Chat pane that reads Codex output live (one-tap fixes), a home-screen Scouter widget with quota/cost/rate-limit gauges, and full Z Fold support (that last one was the hardest part by far).

It's open source, GPLv3: https://github.com/RYOITABASHI/S...

Maker here. I'm a creative director who can't write production code. Shelly is what happened when I stopped trying to learn Kotlin and instead directed Codex to build a native Android terminal for itself. The hardest part wasn't the terminal — it was making the Z Fold stop breaking the layout. Happy to answer anything.
