Aug 27, 2026 Your AI Generated Menu Triggered my Trypophobia Quite a few restaurants are switching to using AI-generated food photos for their menus. The idea to use completely synthetic photos is pretty problematic in itself, considering I expect the photos to represent the food I will actually be served. But that’s still not my #1 complaint. My biggest problem is how these photos look absolutely disgusting—unnatural, grotesque, and almost vomit-inducing. I don’t know what exactly it is—could strange textures, surfaces, or presence of holes—but I get deep sense of revulsion seeing these images in the wild, same as what I get when I see trypophobic images. Let’s hope these restaurants come to their senses and realize that their ‘shortcut’ is as clear as possible and it doesn’t look remotely as good as they think.
