OpenAI October 23, 2026 Global Affairs OpenAI and Poland’s NASK partner to advance AI safety and security Loading… OpenAI and Poland’s NASK National Research Institute have signed an agreement to explore collaboration on AI safety, security and technical research. The partnership will bring together expertise from both organizations to better understand emerging risks, strengthen safeguards, and explore how advanced AI can contribute to a more secure and resilient digital ecosystem. As AI systems become more capable, international collaboration between developers and public research institutions will be essential to understanding their risks and building stronger safeguards. OpenAI’s existing work with the US Center for Advancing Standards and Innovation for Super Intelligence (CAISSI), UK AI Security Institute (AISI) and other public research institutions around the world has already helped strengthen safeguards, identify and fix security vulnerabilities in AI agents, and advance frontier AI safety. Through the agreement, NASK’s AI Safety Research Center – serving as the Polish Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute (AISI) – and OpenAI will collaborate on AI safety research, exploring ways to evaluate increasingly capable AI systems, identify potential vulnerabilities and strengthen safeguards. “Collaboration with OpenAI is a natural step for the Institute and its AI Safety Research Center, which is actively involved in AI safety research. This work spans developing safeguards against emerging risks, detecting synthetic AI-generated content, and understanding both its malicious uses and the multilingual aspects of these challenges. AI safety cannot be achieved in isolation. It is a collaborative effort, and only through active cooperation between public AI Safety Institutes and frontier AI developers can we ensure that AI becomes truly reliable and safe to use. By combining our research expertise with OpenAI’s technical capabilities, we can better anticipate risks, strengthen safeguards, and build public trust in these transformative technologies.” —Radosław Nielek, Director of NASK “Poland is home to exceptional scientists and technical talent, many of whom have helped lead OpenAI’s own research. As AI becomes more capable, it’s vital that we draw on expertise beyond our own organization to challenge our assumptions, test our systems and strengthen safeguards. This agreement with NASK opens the door to doing that together, bringing Poland’s research expertise into the international effort to make AI safer.” —Tom Duff Gordon, VP and Head of EMEA Policy at OpenAI OpenAI has called for the US to work with countries around the world on international technical standards for frontier AI, drawing on the expertise of AI safety institutes and standards bodies. Common approaches to evaluating capabilities, assessing risks, testing safeguards and reporting incidents can help countries compare evidence and respond to risks that cross borders. The collaboration with NASK reflects the value of bringing national expertise into this wider effort. In NASK’s case, this expertise rests on extensive research in AI safety, applied directly to protecting public services and Poland’s digital information ecosystem. Without national partners like NASK, global AI safety standards may remain detached from the realities in which AI is actually used. The agreement also builds on OpenAI’s existing work with cyber defenders in Poland. In July, CERT Polska, which operates within NASK, gained access(opens in a new window) to OpenAI’s cyber capable models through Daybreak. The team used OpenAI models to help discover six vulnerabilities in MikroTik RouterOS, including flaws that could be combined to take control of affected devices without authentication. The vendor released fixes, which CERT Polska confirmed prevented the attacks it observed. 2026 Keep reading View all Building standards for the next phase of AI Global AffairsSep 21, 2026 Responding to the next frontier of critical cyber capabilities SecurityAug 7, 2026 Daybreak for Frontline Defenders SecuritySep 3, 2026
