Beyond answers: New Genie One features to turn insights into action | Databricks Blog Skip to main content • New desktop app: Access Genie One directly from your desktop with a global launcher so you don’t need to switch between browser tabs. • Enhanced document collaboration: Draft, edit, comment on, and share documents directly with Genie One for executive-ready reports in just a few steps. • Expanded context and capabilities: Genie Ontology snippets and file uploads add more enterprise context to Genie One interactions, all built on your existing enterprise governance. We all know the pattern: you ask an AI tool a question and get an answer in seconds, only to spend the next hour investigating the accuracy, reformatting insights into your reporting template, and shipping your update—all while a slew of other open tabs fight for your attention. The first answer might be instant, but the work that follows is still painfully manual. Since Data + AI Summit, we've been working on what happens after Genie One gives you an answer. Our latest updates make it easier than ever to stay in your workflow without distractions, produce high-quality reports instantaneously, and share specific insights or entire workflows. We’ve also expanded the ways Genie One can draw on your enterprise data to produce results and take actions that are grounded in your enterprise context and permissions. Here’s what’s new. Keep Genie One within reach on your desktop Even the most critical work can get lost to distraction when it’s one of a dozen open tabs in your browser. We're introducing the Genie One desktop app, a native application that puts Genie One on your desktop with a global launcher, so that your AI coworker is always available at your fingertips. The app includes the full Genie One experience, including documents, skills, scheduled tasks, and access to Genie Agents and Databricks Apps. Conversations are persistent across your entire Genie One experience, meaning a conversation you begin on the web app can be resumed later on the desktop app, and vice versa. The macOS app is now available in beta. Download it today and visit our documentation page for details. Turn any Genie One conversation into a collaborative, shareable document Once you’ve worked with Genie One to uncover an insight, the next step is often packaging it up into a shareable document for collaboration and feedback. To help users move faster and avoid context-switching between tools, we’ve made documents in Genie One easier to edit and collaborate on. You can now draft, revise, and comment on documents right from Genie One, and then share them with just a direct link, empowering you to use Genie One as a thought partner in the full content development lifecycle. What's new: Document enhancements: Ask Genie One to draft a report, summary, or analysis, and it creates an editable document with live data visualizations, so you don’t have to take screenshots or copy tables into another documentation tool. You can also view version history, add comments, and accept or reject changes from Genie One all within your same document view. Comments: Add comments directly to a Genie document, so colleagues can provide feedback and collaborate without exporting to another tool. Share documents: When you’re ready to share, you can send your document directly to colleagues via a link. They get a read-only view of the document, which they can add comments to directly. Download documents: Need to take a document offline or attach it to an email? Download the document as a PDF with one click. Edit external documents: Using MCPs writes, you can now collaborate with Genie One on a document, and then export it into a document or file in another tool These updates make it easy to move from insight to decision in Genie One, no context-switching required. Visit our documentation for more information on crafting documents with Genie One. From answers to agents, without repeating any work Data questions rarely start and end with just one person—for insights to actually be actionable, they must be easy to share and replicate over time. Users can now share workflows and insights from Genie One in two ways: by instantly creating a Genie Agent, or sharing chat results directly with colleagues. Create a Genie Agent from a conversation: When you’ve worked with Genie One on a conversation that curates domain-specific context, you can save that context as a reusable Genie Agent and continue refining its instructions and data assets. When you’re ready to call that same curated knowledge set for another insight or refresh your data for the next report, you can open up your Genie Agent right from the Genie One side navigation and start collaborating. You can also share Genie Agents with teammates in your workspace, so that you are all working from the same set of governed knowledge and instructions. Note that creating an agent requires Workspace or Databricks SQL access. Share a conversation: For ad-hoc interactions and one-time workflows, chat sharing lets users share a read-only link to any Genie One conversation with all account users. The shared view includes the questions, answers, visualizations, and context, so your colleagues don’t have to repeat any work to get the same insights. Whether you’re saving an agent to scale a repeated workflow across your team or sharing a point-in-time insight with a colleague, these new features ensure you can move from insight to action without repeating any unnecessary work. Bring more context into every conversation We’re also continuing to expand the ways Genie One can access and act on context from across your data estate. Genie Ontology snippets: Genie One now combines modeled business context from Metric Views, Domains, and Pages with ontology snippets, inferred context automatically extracted from dashboards, SQL queries, Metric Views, and Genie Agents. Snippets capture business rules, metric definitions, and authoritative sources, helping Genie One find the right context for each question while respecting source permissions. Learn more about Genie Ontology in our documentation. File upload: Upload CSV, Excel, PDF, image, and Word files directly into a conversation and analyze them alongside other data. Uploaded files are private to the conversation in which they are shared. See our documentation for the supported formats and limits. MCP writes actions: Comment on a ticket, create a document, or send an email with connected MCP tools—all governed through the Unity AI Gateway. See our documentation for supported connections and setup guidance. Together, these capabilities make Genie One not only smarter on your enterprise context, but also more powerful on putting insights into action on your behalf. Built on governance you already use Every Genie One interaction continues to be grounded in the enterprise-level governance you rely on Databricks for. Since Genie One brings together data assets, Genie Agents, dashboards, documents, and external connected sources, governance depends on the type of source and action involved. Unity Catalog governs access to Databricks data and Genie Agents. Users can work only with assets shared with them. External sources such as Google Drive, SharePoint, GitHub, Glean, and Atlassian use the authentication configured for each source and user, and Unity Gateway governs MCP tools.
